Product Overview
Typically, a porous, cellulose thimble contains the solid material within the Soxhlet extraction chamber (although glass thimbles can also be used). The flask is heated and the vapour from the refluxing solvent evaporates, condenses and then collects in the extraction chamber, repeatedly washing the solid, extracting the desired compound into the flask. The solvent in the flask is then evaporated and the mass of the remaining lipid is measured – a rotary evaporator can be used to remove the solvent.
