Overview of Analytical Methods

In analytical science, there are a variety of analytical methods that can be used to elucidate the structure or monitor the reaction of a substance. NMR spectroscopy as well as the various methods of chromatography are the most commonly used methods here. In order to achieve the best possible working and measuring results, you need high quality glassware and equipment. As a leading manufacturer of laboratory glassware, DWK Life Sciences has an extensive range of products to meet your needs.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)

Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR spectroscopy) is a spectroscopic method to elucidate the structure of molecules and compounds. Due to electronic interactions of single atoms with the neighbouring atoms, structural conclusions can be drawn. In addition to structure elucidation, the concentration and dynamics of molecules can be determined with this method. This analytical method requires very precise tubes with a constant diameter, a uniform wall thickness and excellent straightness across the entire tube. DWK Life Sciences offers an extensive range of NMR tubes and accessories for this method.

Chromatography

The aqueous separation of substance mixtures due to their interaction with a stationary phase and the associated distribution of the individual components is called chromatography. In combination with other analytical and separation methods, the individual components of a sample can be isolated and finally detected. WHEATON® offers a wide range of chromatography vials and accessories. The vials are designed for trouble-free operation in most autosamplers. Products include, for example, 12 x 32 autosampler vials, headspace vials and shell vials. For use in GC and HPLC applications, the vials are offered with crimp, snap/crimp and screw caps. To ensure chemical compatibility with your sample, DWK Life Sciences offers a variety of different cap and septum materials.

Thin Layer Chromatography

One of the best-known chromatographic separation methods is thin-layer chromatography (TLC), which can be used to isolate individual components of a mixture of substances both qualitatively and quantitatively. The stationary phase (silica gel or aluminium oxide) is applied to a carrier plate, to the lower end of which the sample to be separated is applied selectively. Placed in a vessel with the mobile phase, the liquid rises up the plate. The sample is separated due to the different affinities of the individual components for the stationary and mobile phases, which are thus carried along to different extents in the mobile phase. The product range offered by DWK Life Sciences includes a variety of TLC chambers and jars as well as capillary tubes and other TLC accessories.

BOD Determination

WHEATON® BOD bottles are ideal for incubating dilute samples of wastewater, sewage, polluted waters and industrial waste to determine the amount of oxygen required during the stabilisation of degradable organic matter by aerobic biochemical processes. DWK Life Sciences supports this special application with a selection of tubes and accessories.

Volumetric Analysis

The exact measurement of volumes is a daily routine task in the laboratory. This makes it all the more important to ensure the quality of the instruments required for this purpose, from volumetric flasks to stoppers, day after day, for every analysis over the long term. Volumetric instruments are integral parts of laboratory glassware that enable the precise measurement of liquids. This ensures high reliability and reproducibility of the measurement results. All DWK Life Sciences volumetric instruments are manufactured to the highest possible standards and meet or exceed the most stringent ASTM and ISO regulations as well as the tight tolerances required. Our range includes a variety of volumetric flasks and cylinders, pipettes and burettes as well as accessories.
